My wife is Finnish and her uncles and aunts would like to sell 42 Hectares of forest and lake front land in Kuhmo and have approached her. We live in the UK and don't intend to ever live in Kuhmo (eventhough its a beautiful place- I have seen those forests, they are lovely). Can you suggest what we could do with those forests? Can we get some kind of yield from the timber for instance? Are there any timber management companies in Finland to who we can outsource the cutting of wood (for which we get paid) and for managing the forest (so that the wood doesn't run out)? Sorry, I have no experience in this area, so these could be totally idiotic questions, but was just thinking of this: what do Finns do with the forests they buy?
Many thanks for your reply.
there is indeed Forest Management Association in Finland which operates in different parts of the country. This association does look after private forest properties. The association in question in your case is the one that operates in Kainuu. The Finnish name of the association is Metsanhoitoyhdistys, Kainuu. The person in charge of arranging and looking after private forest properties is that area is Kalle Immonen. You can get directly in touch with him via e-mail: email@example.com
