Hello,There are so many milk products in Finland.

Hello,
There are so many milk products in Finland. When I check from many dictionaries, they always tell diferent things. For example sour milk - sometime, it says piima and soemtime it's viili or crema villi. Do you have the real full explanation somewhere?

Answer

Hi!

You are right - there are many different translations of Finnish dairy products, for example:

piimä - sour(ed) milk, curdled milk
kirnupiimä - buttermilk, cultured buttermilk
viili - sour(ed) whole milk, curd milk, cultured whole milk
kermaviili - sour(ed) cream, curd cream, cultured half cream
