First of all, a lot has been done for the homeless people in Finland. After the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless in 1987, the Government devised a multifaceted response to the problem. It included building of social housing, the creation of social welfare and health care services, and setting a target to provide a dwelling of minimum standards for every homeless person. The number of single homeless persons at that time was approxi-mately 18 000. In just 10 years, the number of...17.4.2010 22:12Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

There is a piano and a practiceroom in Library 10 at Postitalo. The address is Elielinaukio 2 G, it's the big yellow building right between the railway station and the museum of modern art Kiasma. When you take the entrance from Elielinaukio the library is on the 2nd floor, right above the post office, take the escalators up.
The best way to book the practiceroom is visiting Library 10 personally and check the times that work the best for you. As Library 10 is a music library, there is also an...26.7.2012 17:21

Hello,
The address of the rental apartment where you're staying is perfectly sufficient for the purpose of getting yourself a library card. You also need some kind of official identification, i.e. a passport, a government issued ID card (from an EU member country) or a driver's license (also from EU). That's all you need.
You can apply for the library card in any HelMet library. You'll get the card right then and there. The HelMet library card is valid in all Helsinki metropolitan area (...18.6.2012 11:53

We are a public library and we do not have the expertise nor the data concerning your enquiry. However, we suggest that you get in touch with organisations that deal with economics and statistics. It would be a good idea to approach the London School of Economics library via their “Ask a Librarian” service. You can also contact the press corps of the Bank of Sweden. They might be able to help you. You might also check the web-sites of the Bank of England, statistics offices of both Britain and...7.7.2008 23:26Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

We have two types of big birches in Finland; rauduskoivu (silver birch) and hieskoivu (downy birch). Rauduskoivu comes into leaf earlier and the leaves are stronger. On the other hand leaves of hieskoivu has this nice stronger aroma. You can use rauduskoivu and ad few twigs of hieskoivu into the middle of the whisk.
You´ll identify rauduskoivu by its triangular and saw-edged leaves. Hieskoivu´s leaf is more...15.10.2014 14:39Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

The compensation price for the book in question is 40,00 €. Your loan is due 17.11.2014, and if there are no requests for the book, you can even renew the loan. So, there is no hurry to compensate for the book. I advice for you to look for it a little longer. Let us hope that you still find it.

Here is a quote from HelMet instructions:
Limiters without keywords
You can replace the keyword(s) by using only the truncation mark * combined with one or more limiters (material type, language, year of publication, library). This way you will find all material of any particular kind.
Examples:
all Swedish videos in Tikkurila library
all Chinese magazines
all Russian CDs in Kauniainen library
all DVDs

We apologize for the belated answer.
The Library of Parliament has quite extensive collection of books and articles also in english. You can search their database with search word "julkishallinto". To get particular references about collaboration between citizens and public administration search "kansalaistoiminta".
http://lib.eduskunta.fi/Resource.phx/library/index.htx?lng=en
You can also search the Helsinki University Library with the same search words.

Dear Egyptian student,
The Helsinki City Library website was published in 1994. You can find some of the earlier versions from http://www.archive.org , search for http://www.lib.hel.fi . Data Administration Manager Jouni Juntumaa is in charge of the site management. The site is updated continuously. As far as we know, the Cable Book Library of Helsinki City Library published the first library website in the world. It was published in 1994.
