Helsingfors centraltryckeri och bokbinderi Ab (in Swedish), or Helsingin Keskuskirjapaino ja kirjansitomo Oy (in Finnish), was founded in 1889. In English the name translates roughly as the Helsinki Central Printing House and Bookbinder. In the beginning it also went by the finnish name Helsingin sentraalikirjapaino ja kirjansitomo osakeyhtiö. The printing house was responsible for printing, among other things, parliamentary documents as well as the literary works and scientific books of...1.1.2018 15:49Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

Hi,
Helsinki City Library has a few open apprenticeships per year. You can look for them in Helsinkirekry-pages: https://www.erekryhelsinki.fi/OpenJobs.asp?L=1&NODATA=1&Z=H&IE=2 > Työpaikan ammattiala > Ammatillinen koulutus kaupungin palvelukseen. A reasonable knowledge of Finnish language is required in apprenticeship training.20.5.2012 14:46Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

Hello!
In Finland, studies of Library and Information Systems qualify for many professions. These include jobs in public and scientific libraries (librarians, information specialists) and in companies (information specialists, IT specialists etc.).
The jobs can vary from library and information services to developing web services or databases. I think the situation is pretty much the same in all the nordic countries.
I hope this information was useful for you.28.9.2009 13:51Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

It is very difficult to advice you. In the long run your maternity leave will not save you from being laid off if your employer has legal grounds to let you go. I would advice you to contact your local office of work safety (in finnish "työsuojelupiiri").
If you live in Helsinki Metropolitan Area, call:
(09) 774 711.

First of all visit the nearest employment office and register as a jobseeker, if you haven't done it already. They may refer you to the special services for foreigners or immigrants. In any case the employment office knows what kind of jobs are available, and you'll be able to ask any questions you may have.
The employment office web site in English: http://www.mol.fi/mol/en/index.jsp. Do check the links in the Shortcuts list!
Some of the information is available also in other languages:...27.9.2007 19:48Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto
Are you a young person faced with career choice, or have you recently become unemployed? You may of course be in the middle of a successful career but hankering after something different. Not that your employment history matters. You're wondering, and the basic answer is always the same. As the ancient Greeks said: "Know thyself."
Your career isn't your whole life. What do you really dream about, apart from the dream job? A family? Friendships? Travel? A special city / piece of backwoods...20.9.2007 10:27Helsingin kaupunginkirjasto

It is not easy to answer your question since you do not mention what occupations you have in mind!
In every occupation where you meet people on a professional basis swedish is probably required. But if you consider other occupations, you might do without!
Please contact below official, the Employment Services, for futher advice
